Initial Screenplay Task

Screenplay: Initial Task
The Third Eye
Genre:
  • Short film.
  • Thriller.
  • Supernatural.
Technical Features linked to these genres:
  • Saturated colour palette.
  • Suspenseful soundtrack.
  • Intimate cinematography.
  • Accelerating editing and pacing.
  • Abnormal mise-en-scene.
  • Possibly mysterious setting.
  • Special Effects.
  • Emphasised use of sound.
Synopsis:
  • A main character is victim to some oppression or threat (by an antagonist), innocence makes conflict unjustified.
  • The character feels helpless.
  • The character gains some form of telepathic ability (a Third Eye) with which they can hear peoples thoughts and implicate thoughts or visions into people minds.
  • Discovering this power, they experiment with it.
  • They take revenge on the oppressor.
  • The revenge goes to far and the revenge has bad consequences.
  • The character is now stuck with this curse of The Third Eye.
A single moment:
  • The final moment in which the character realises the significance of their newly-found ability.
How I picture this moment:
  • The intimidating male protagonist lies badly injured on the floor, a close up revealing blood around his body.
  • Close up on the main characters face to show audience the realisation of the consequences of their actions.
  • Quick pans around as a crowd of people gather around the body.
  • Sound builds as the character hears the crowds thoughts loudly in their mind, shown by an extreme close up of their eyes.
  • Editing speeds up the entire time during this, showing several people in the crowd not talking, therefore showing that it is their thoughts that are being heard.
  • Large build of soundtrack for tension.
  • Release of tension during long shot, character screams with hands clutched to their head, breathing heavily.
